Four time conference champion defensive specialist from Penn State University. Coach Torbett took over the Pirate program in February of 2013. In her first season the team amassed 11 more wins than the previous three years. She came from Winthrop University in the Big South Conference. In her 18 years of coaching, Torbett became the winningest coach in Big South Conference Volleyball history. In her first season at Winthrop, she accumulated a 20-8 record, the best since 2007, and led the Eagles to a Big South Regular Season Championship title. During Coach Torbett’s career she has led her teams to regular season championships (’02, ’09, ‘11) and title match appearances (’03, ’05, ’06). Named Big South Coach of the Year in ‘02 and ‘09, she has consistently developed and trained players to the All-Conference, All- Region, and All-American levels.


Assistant Coach Cindi Miller

Cindi Miller, a two-time First Team All-Big South Conference player at UNC Asheville, was named assistant volleyball coach at East Carolina in March 2013.

Miller comes to ECU after serving as an assistant coach at Winthrop under Torbett during the 2012 season.

During her year at Winthrop, Miller oversaw the outside and middle hitters and was an instrumental part in the development of Jennica Mullins and Rachel Lenz. The pair went on to earn All-Big South Honors as Mullins was named to the Second Team and Lenz earned All-Freshman Team accolades

"I am excited to have Cindi Miller on my staff at ECU," Torbett stated. "She brings a young perspective and knows my coaching style and philosophy. She is a great fit for the program."


Assistant Coach Eli Sharping

Eli Sharping was named assistant volleyball coach in March 2014. Sharping came to Greenville after serving as a volunteer assistant at the University of Georgia during the 2013 season.

"We are excited to have Eli come on board," Torbett said. "He brings solid fundamentals having been trained at Sports Performance in Chicago as a player. He has coaching experience as an assistant at Wisconsin, which met Penn State in the National Championship last season, and at Georgia, which was a program that made a significant turn around and an NCAA appearance in 2013."
