Head Coach Sean Walsh

Coach Walsh was announced as Brevard's head coach on May 18, 2016 after spending six years as a Hitting Coach and coordinating the infield defense on Matt McCay's staff.

In six years as an assistant coach, Walsh helped the Tornados amass 109 wins, a third-place finish in the South Atlantic Conference standings in 2012, and a pair of postseason appearances.

In his time at Brevard , the Tornados have had a lot of team as well as individual success offensively. In just his second year as Hitting Coach, Brevard rose to 12th in the nation in team batting average with a .328 team average. The team also ranked in the top 50 in various other offensive categories.

Individual honors for players coached by Walsh have include the team’s first All-Conference performer in Randy O’Dell in 2011. Second baseman Chad Funkhouser received South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2012, which was another first in school history. Outfielder Champ Stuart received All-Conference honors in 2012 and 2013, and became the highest draft pick in Brevard College history after being selected in the 6th round by the New York Mets in 2013. Hunter Donaldson was named first team all-Southeast Region as a utility pitcher and honorable mention all-SAC as a pitcher in 2015, while Schuyler Martire received honorable mention all-SAC honors in 2016 at second base.

Prior to his coaching career, Walsh played collegiately at Radford University before transferring to N.C. State University where he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2001.

Walsh spent four seasons in the Phillies farm system, advancing as high as Double-A with the Reading Phillies. Walsh was a minor league teammate of current big leaguers Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Carlos Ruiz and Gavin Floyd. In July 2003 while with the High-A Clearwater Phillies, Walsh received organizational Player on the Month honors for having the best month for a position player in the entire minor league system after hitting safely in 25 of 30 games and going .323 with 10 doubles, a triple, and four home runs during the month.

After his time with the Phillies, Walsh spent two more years playing professionally. During a season with the Fullerton Flyers of the Golden Baseball League, Walsh was an All-Star third baseman and ranked second in the league with a .357 batting average. Walsh spent the next season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on the Northern League, where he was also selected to the All-Star team as a third baseman.

Walsh now lives in Brevard with his beautiful wife Candice, who is the executive director of the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County. Their daughter Emma Beth will turn two years old on September 7, 2016.

Assistant Coach Kevin Allingham

Kevin Allingham enters the first season of his second stint as the Assistant Coach for the Brevard College Tornados Baseball team. Kevin Earned his BS in Physical Education from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He later went on to complete his MS in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. From there, Coach Allingham served as the Assistant Baseball Coach at USA South member institute Methodist University from 2002-2010.

His first stint with the Tornados was from 2010-2015. He helped the Tornado squad compile a program-best 27-27 record in the 12-13 season. After Brevard, Allingham spent four years as the VP of recruiting at STUDENTathleteWorld (SaWUSA) based out of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. Alongside this time, Allingham also was an Associate Scout with Major League Baseball’s Miami Marlins. He most recently served as the Athletics Liaison at his Alma Mater, Catawba College.

Kevin is married to Brooke Banther.  They reside in Lake Toxaway, NC.
